1. Does ChromaFlex need a top coat?

ChromaFlex doesn't require a top coat. Once fully dry and cured, ChromaFlex is water-resistant, making it suitable for various projects.

If you choose to apply a top coat, our Tough Coat Gloss is ideal. A matte top coat might slightly alter the iridescent effect of ChromaFlex.

You can also add ChromaFlex to Tough Coat for a shimmer!

2. How many coats should I apply?

One thin coat is typically all you need to achieve the full colour-shift effect.

3. Can I thin ChromaFlex?

Absolutely! You can thin ChromaFlex with water or water-based mediums.

Just a heads-up: using matte mediums such as our Tough Coat Matte might slightly alter the iridescent effect of ChromaFlex, so it's best to test first to ensure it meets your expectations.

4. Can I create a brush-stroke-free finish with ChromaFlex™?

ChromaFlex naturally reveals soft brush texture — it’s part of its hand-crafted, artisanal charm.

Because it’s a colour-shifting, translucent paste, the direction of your application actually enhances the effect as the light catches those subtle strokes.

5. Can I add ChromaFlex to Fusion’s Tough Coat Gloss Top Coat, Decoupage & Transfer Gel, or Embossing Paste?

Yes — ChromaFlex mixes beautifully with water-based mediums.

Decoupage & Transfer Gel: Adds a shifting, luminous layer to découpage papers and transfers.

Embossing Paste: Produces raised, dimensional, colour-flip effects — stunning for stencils.

You can also mix ChromaFlex into Tough Coat Gloss for glossy washes, and even into Clear Furniture Wax (a little goes a long way).

Bottom line: ChromaFlex is highly versatile and intermixes beautifully with Fusion mediums for endless creative effects.

6. Can I add ChromaFlex to Fusion’s Furniture Waxes?

Yes, you can! ChromaFlex mixes surprisingly well with Fusion’s Clear Furniture Wax.

Because it’s a concentrated, water-based paste, a very small amount goes a long way — even just a few drops of paste can tint a 50g wax container.

This creates a soft, iridescent, colour-shifting wax finish that’s beautiful for highlighting details, adding subtle shimmer, or creating layered effects.

7. Can I blend different ChromaFlex colours together or blend ChromaFlex with Fusion Mineral Paint?

Yes to both!

ChromaFlex colours can be blended together to create completely custom colour-shift effects. Mix as much or as little as you like — each combination produces its own unique flip.

You can also mix ChromaFlex into Fusion Mineral Paint. This adds a subtle-to-dramatic iridescent shimmer while still allowing the base paint colour to show through.
